We Make Money Not Art has a good interview with Riitta Ikonen, a new graduate from the Royal College of Art in London. ”My work is concerned with the performance of images, through photography and costume design. Certain items, usually small and insignificant, excite me to the point where I have to wear them and then document that process. The super- garments I make open up new experiences. In my costumes tremendous things happen - to me and to the people I work with.”

PingMag has an interview with ZEVS, the French street artist whose street art and graffiti “distorts the logos” of corporate brands. “Visual kidnapping is like entering an interactive game: If the brand on the billboard kidnaps the attention of the public with the purpose of consumer demand, I reverse the situation and I kidnap the model on the poster and I demand a ransom of 500,000 Euros from the brand. This sum represents the symbolic price of an advertising campaign for the brand.”

"As a side project, I decided to make a scaled-down version that actually glowed at night. The result was a nice-looking (thanks to SANAA) table lamp… With luck, I’ll be able to produce enough of these for those light-loving but disappointed fans of the New Museum.” Read the rest of Sherwood Forlee’s post here.

"A Capsule hotel is a unique style of accommodation in Japan, inspired by the pursuit of efficiency of space and functional comfort, originating from the adaptive, creative spirit of the Japanese mind. A typical Capsule Hotel is composed of two major sections; a public lounge space including bathing, and the other is a private space where the sleeping rooms (capsules) are arranged. The actual sleeping room is a capsule unit made of reinforced plastic and designed in the image of a jet airplane’s cockpit. In the capsule unit, all the required amenities are provided; TV, radio, alarm clock, adjustable lighting… almost everything is provided! Every device is within your reach and you can control everything in a sleeping position.” The Capsule Inn Akihabara is located right in the digital and electronics hub of Tokyo - the Electric City.

"American-Spanish artist couple Walter Martin and Paloma Muñoz from New York have been exploring tiny little dramas from our everyday madness and transformed them into short therapeutic scenes: What started as miniature snow globes a couple of years ago, has now evolved in veritable landscape panoramas that depict the elaborate bleakness of an emotional icy desert populated by all sorts of creatures. A world in everlasting winter, how grim! And at the same time, how funny! PingMag talked to Walter.”

I love it when street style and tech come together as does with this KRINK laptop sleeve by Arkitip, a project of Incase “aimed at rtistically embellished Apple products to users who have an appreciation for the creative arts and technology.” Krink pens were developed by graffiti writer and artist, Craig “KR” Costello out of a variety of homemade inks and markers for use in both street and studio environments. “KR’s products gained notoriety by their association with his work in the street, the studio, and by his dripping ink aesthetics.” Available at $79.95 for MacBook and MacBook Pro 15 In.
