Stuart Haygarth describes his work: “The original Tide chandelier is part of a larger body of work based on the collection of ‘man made’ debris washed up on a specific stretch of Kent coastline. I have been collecting material over many years and the work is still in progress...The Tide chandelier is created from clear and translucent objects, primarily made of plastic. Each object is different in shape and form, yet they come together to produce one sphere. The sphere is an analogy for the moon which effects the tides which in turn wash up the debris.” Thanks to Stylehiver, bellajewels, for bookmarking the blog that led to the work of Stuart Haygarth.
Barbara Cohen’s jewelry designs are anything but ordinary. Each piece combines both natural and synthetic materials to become a hybrid. There’s both minimalism and decorative embellishment, hard and soft, ancient and modern. Cohen writes, “Upon seeing my collection of fossil pendants a fellow artist called me an organic perfectionist.” In this seeming contradiction lies the intrigue and the beauty of her series: Mesh, Cocoon, and Stone. Thanks to Stylehiver, fiction, for bookmarking these to the Hive.
Stylehiver, bellajewels posts this bookmark of Decennia Design‘s glass table. Leave it to the Dutch to creatively combine an organic image with minimal glass and metal.
Stylehive member, sunchi, posts these incredible miniature insect sculptures by Mike Libby, a “multi-disciplinary artist who makes highly detailed sculptures, models, collages and drawings. Through diverse materials and methodologies, I explore themes of science, nature, fantasy, history and autobiography; highlighting illogical and acute correspondences between the real and unreal.” Check out the rest of Mike’s collection while you’re at it. Amazing.
Stylehive member, DIYThing, uncovers the Melbourne label Hamb, which “features drawings by artist Simon Obarzanek, inspired by his childhood companion, a sausage dog named Snippy.”
