"Each Guy Robot is a one-of-a-kind handmade creation...The piece parts that go into each Guy Robot flow from a range of industrial tributaries: aerospace and avionics surplus suppliers, automotive salvage yards, long-haul microwave equipment recyclers, decommissioned plumbing and refrigeration remnants, vintage hand-tool swap-meet winnings. And, yes, truth be told, sometimes the perfect Guy Robot find is that gem that is spotted and rescued from among the flotsam hauled to the curb by the neighbors and otherwise destined for final disposal.”

From my friends at Carsonified comes Hugs, “a one-off, limited edition range of MacBook Pro sleeves and iPhone cosies to help protect your most treasured technology bits and pieces.” And, they’re handmade by Ryan, Gill, Mel, Lisa, Elliot and Jo from their lovely studio in Bath, England. The idea is just as personal: “each Hug will arrive delicately wrapped in tissue paper and encased in its very own custom box. Also tucked inside you’ll find a Certificate of Origin, which records the name of your Hug and who created it, and finally a Moleskine journal. The journal that is included with your Hug is very important. After one month of using your Hug, we would love it if you could pass it on to another deserving person. Before you do, use the journal to record a little about yourself, what you do, where you live, what you love… then pass it on.”

”Denis Wood creates maps that are like novels: they try to describe everyday life. Here are some of the ones he tells us about in episode 110, “Mapping” on This American Life.” The map above shows what you might see “if, in the middle of a summer’s night, you were to lie down at the intersection of Boylan and Montfort Avenues and look up.”

Tina Roth Eisenberg (aka swissmiss) takes this beautiful photo of her kid’s toy, a handmade wooden cow by Swissmade. The Swiss moo is adorable and the idea of taking photos of your kid’s toys so they can see them when they’re older is definitely worth it. This is Tina’s first in her series of photos. My mom took several photos of some toys I had when my brother and I were little and I’ve always treasured them.
