Ocarina is the “first true musical instrument created for the iPhone. Ocarina is sensitive to your breath, touch and movements, making it even more versatile than the original [instrument]. Unlike other musical applications, there are no pre-compiled riffs so musicians will find unlimited opportunities for self-expression. Advanced options allow you to choose between diatonic, minor and harmonic scales.” You blow into the iPhone microphone and use your fingers to play the “keys” on the screen.
Ocarina is also a social application. “Tap on the globe icon and you will see and hear other Ocarina players throughout the world. The globe view will highlight the source of the music. Rate your favorite performances so that others may benefit from your judgment. Name your Ocarina if you want listeners around the world to identify your performances.” Download the app at the iTunes store for $.99. According to the company, the app is optimized for 3G phones. For first generation phones, they recommend upgrading to the 2.2 firmware when it becomes available.
I’m amazed by the video above and others on their site. This app is one of the first to really take advantage of all the unique features of the iPhone. Downloading and installing the app now!
"Photo Flip Clock lets you customize a stylish flip clock with photos you take yourself. Just take a photo, or choose one from your gallery, and make it one of the digits in your clock. Any time you see a cool looking number when you’re walking around, just add it to the clock. Or, make an entire set of digits out of your kids holding numbers and put your phone on your desk at work!” Download it directly here from the iTunes app store.
"This handy 3-in-1 gadget has a few tricks up its sleeve. Not only is it a 2GB flash drive for storing files, it also has a built-in rechargeable battery that lets you charge your iPod or iPhone when you’re stuck away from civilization. The Macally PowerLink ($50) also features an iPod/iPhone dock connector and a USB connector for syncing and recharging.” The site says the product is coming soon. [via uncrate]
Vaja makes some unique case for gadgets, especially the sleek ivolution lady hoster (for iPhone) or the sporty ivolution SP (for iPhone 3G). Prices start at $85. Sorry, we couldn’t link to the products themselves since the site is flash.
From my friends at Carsonified comes Hugs, “a one-off, limited edition range of MacBook Pro sleeves and iPhone cosies to help protect your most treasured technology bits and pieces.” And, they’re handmade by Ryan, Gill, Mel, Lisa, Elliot and Jo from their lovely studio in Bath, England. The idea is just as personal: “each Hug will arrive delicately wrapped in tissue paper and encased in its very own custom box. Also tucked inside you’ll find a Certificate of Origin, which records the name of your Hug and who created it, and finally a Moleskine journal. The journal that is included with your Hug is very important. After one month of using your Hug, we would love it if you could pass it on to another deserving person. Before you do, use the journal to record a little about yourself, what you do, where you live, what you love… then pass it on.”
Another sign of the times: if you’re a company, your best feedback is going to come from passionate individuals like Brad Choate. In his post, 100+ iPhone Features I Want, he gives a detailed list of suggestions and ideas. Apple, have you read this? (via Digg)
Apple’s $100 store credit offer for early iPhone buyers goes live today but based on this tweet by Timoni, it seems that eligibility depends on exact time of purchase. Exact as in 2 minutes later? That’s not cool, Steve!
