Monday, November 26, 2007 is Web Standards Day, “the day thousands of Standardistas (people who support web standards) will wear a Blue Beanie to show their support for accessible, semantic web content. It’s easy to show your support for web design done right. Don a Blue Beanie and snap a photo.” Switch your profile picture in Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, etc. and post your photo to the Blue Beanie Day group at Flickr.

All t’ world’s gone mad today with International Talk Like a Pirate Day, started by two guys, John Baur and Mark Summers in 1995 (back then, they’re the only ones who celebrated it). Dave Barry propelled it to popularity in this column in 2002.  Tonight, my Twitter stream and Twitterverse is all a buzz with pirate speak and pirate avatars. Oh, and don’t forget to go to Flickr, click “arrrrr!” in the footer and switch your language to pirate speak.  Images below.

I love the LOLCats meme as much as the next web geek, especially ICanHasCheezburger, but somewhere in all this fervor over funny photos of cats, I felt like the dogs of the world were being ignored. They’ve got something to say too and they don’t even need any overlaid text to say, “yo, dogz ur coolz.”
