With the aim to develop alternative, economical washing technologies that work in different climatic and cultural tendencies of the countries worldwide, students at the École Supérieure d’Art d’Aix-en-Provence of France, came up with “Open Source Washing Machine Project". The prototype is prepared using bicycle parts (the tires and wheel), bamboo, and a solar panel connected directly to a recycled electric motor. It’s a DIY solar powered washer that sucks juice from the Sun to help you do the laundry in environment friendly way.

Magazines, both print and digital have been the most excited with the release of a platform like the iPad. It seems to have given the publishing industry a brand new hope of reviving the ritual of reading (with a twist) amongst the current generation of consumers

Just found a great collection of gorgeous Volkswagen manuals from the early 1960s - late 70s. For all the VW fans out there, you have to agree that there is nothing better than the old VW !

What's beautiful about these manuals is not only their aesthetic but also the well crafted content. It's interesting to look at these manuals today in 2010 when we take so many aspects of the car for granted but when reading through these manuals I realized how the car makers took it as their responsibility to educate the owner and make him feel comfortable in this new product that he had just bought, As a pracitioner within the field of User Experience Design, these manuals are great artifacts to look at as they focus more on the experience of the passenger and not on the features of the car (which is the focus of car salesmen today).

Charles and Ray Eames augmented the interior "collage" of the Eames House with numerous objects brought back from their extensive travels. The figure of a black wooden bird - evidently one of their most prized objects of American folk art - has stood in the centre of their living room for over fifty years. Also seen as an accessory in many of the Eameses' photographs, the bird figure from the Appalachian mountain region of the eastern United States. Based on the original artifact and in cooperation with the Eames Family, Vitra is now producing the first series of this figure.

LEGO N.Y. is an imaginative look at life in New York City constructed entirely out of LEGOs. Designer and illustrator Christoph Niemann was inspired to create a series of miniature New York vignettes out of his sons' toys after a few cold and dark winter days in Berlin. The former New Yorker then posted photographs of his creations along with his handwritten captions on his New York Times blog.

“Comb Over" is a carpet that takes inspiration from the comb-over hairdo commonly used by bald men. Designed by Meirav barzilay, the carpet clearly demonstrates as to how the beauty can be found in the blemishes of old age, which we tend to conceal. From covering yourself with the long strands or making a “ball" out of them to rest your head, you can use the carpet in various ways. Measuring about 120cm X165cm, this cool rug is gray color to gel well with any modish interior.

The “Nissyoku" by from Igendesign is an elegant lamp that draws inspiration from a solar eclipse to glow up your interiors in a unique way. The metal ring in the middle helps you turn ON/OFF the lamp. Integrating two panels fixed with magnets when moved on the concave surface made out of the intersection of the two globes creates a unique ambiance. Through the vacuum forming, the lamp makes use of a 5W high-powered LED in each panel. Hang it like the chandelier, place it on the table or use it as a wall lamp, it actually creates the unique ambiance.
