If you've ever looked at a traditional city map and lamented its unimaginative format, U.K. designer James Skevington has created the concept series a4Frequent Flyer,' rendering notable cities around the world as whimsical illustrations. The a4maps,' although not necessarily accurate for travel, work to provide the viewer with a sense of the cultural currency and content of a place, demonstrating its unique character through whimsical, colorful, and creative imagery. Although its not recommended you discard your GPS just yet, Skevington's a4Frequent Flyer' remains an interest and innovative way to think about a city.

Although typography is indeed an art form in itself, rarely is it fully utilized as a medium for abstract creations; Katerina Orlikova's a4Light and Typography' series achieves this, taking the finely honed shapes of various typographic sets and using them to generate an ever-changing series of abstract images. Using the medium of a kaleidoscope, Orlikova developed a series of five units each themed around a single typeface, ranging from sans serif to caligraphic; the result are beautifully colorful images that scarcely represent our traditional perceptions of type and how we interpret its design.

Designer Norio Fujikawa has imagined a4Rocket Girl,' a concept toy that captures the imagination with its unique styling and attention to detail. The San Fransisco artist's creation, which features clean lines while maintaining an overall complex appearance, beautifully navigates the boundary between art and toy; a creation that commands admiration for its high design, but does so while maintaining elements of playfulness and whimsy. Hopefully it won't be long before Norio Fujikawa's a4Rocket Girl' makes the transition from concept to product.

Matt Ritchie, a graphic designer working out of New Hampshire, has developed a product called "Scrap Drives" in an effort to raise awareness regarding the current process of manufacturing, and recycling, USB flash drives. The project stems from Ritchie's research into the life cycle of a4throw-away' technology such as flash drives; finding a void in terms of both innovation and design, he generated this product line. The drives are handcrafted out of recycled materials, with their exterior casings and packaging using 100% naturally sourced products.

The past couple of weeks has seen us take a very promising interest in interior designer Svilen Gamolov. This time we get a glimpse of the young designers interesting new coffee table concept. Looking like something from a Takashi Murakami painting, this new design plays with different shapes and sizes, looking nothing like any other coffee table Ive seen. Each table consists of a smooth white acrylic surface, and a large gap separating the table top and the legs. The tables come in an array of different interior colors including black and white, white and orange, white and pink. There is also one table that comes in a white fabric surface.

Anyone who is associated with the electricity one way or the other, surely knows where do the inventive bookshelf by Alexandra DiCairano takes inspiration from. Yups, it's a short circuit design and that's where it gets the name too from. The beautifully efficient pattern of the circuit board indeed doesn't ask for any introduction for one glimpse at it coerces the spectator to praise it.
