John Maeda is one of my favorite design thinkers and writers. He’s the author of “The Laws of Simplicity,” an accomplished digital artist and designer, and a professor at the MIT Media Lab. In a recent post, he writes about the recurring question from students at orientation: “is it...okay...to make art at the lab?” I love his response: “the answer is really quite simple. The question shouldn’t even be asked. Students should instead demand to make art—without concern for what the management might say. Art does not need permission to be made.”
